SmartWork wasn't designed in a boardroom. It came out of running a real business and figuring out — the hard way — which parts could be automated and which parts actually need a human.

Why SmartWork exists

SmartWork was started by a small business owner who knew the problem from the inside — the trades and property maintenance world where a huge chunk of every week disappears into admin that has nothing to do with the actual job.

Invoices to follow up. Quotes to write. Enquiries to reply to. Social media to post. Reviews to respond to. The list never got shorter — it just got ignored until it couldn't be any more.

When AI tools became capable enough to handle this reliably, those workflows started getting automated. Invoice follow-ups. Quote generation. A review collection pipeline that turned completed jobs into Google reviews automatically. The hours that came back were significant. More importantly, the work didn't drop in quality — it actually got more consistent.

That's when it became obvious: every small business has this same problem. The plumber sending the same quote email 40 times a month. The café owner writing Sunday-night social posts that take two hours. The consultant manually chasing unpaid invoices every fortnight.
